Behind the Design x Words from uni - SSD Enclosure V2

April 19, 2023 2 min read

April 17, 2023, Monday, sunny and super hot.

Let's take a trip down memory lane to September last year when I first wrote about uni's premier SSD enclosure. Fast forward to today, and uni's product evolution is getting seriously speedy!

"What would we do if a product is not good enough?"

💬   "We'll design a new one that lives up to our standards!"

  • SSDs demand a high-quality environment, which means they need secure installation and removal without damage, reliable read/write speeds, manageable temperatures, and stable connections. Oh, and let's not forget a trustworthy chip manufacturer (mainstream supplier, anyone?)... The list goes on, but not too long.

  • A good SSD enclosure is a game changer: it makes the most of your spare SSD cards, speeds up system reinstallations, and turbocharges Mac Time Machine backups. And the cherry on top? You'd much rather have a hot enclosure than a blazing M.2 drive! Life is too short for slow storage. And it is a cool way to house spare drives.

  • When it comes to recommending or using this product, we're all about the SSD enclosure's quality: stability, user-friendly installation, sleek design, and bang for your buck. (Why turn a practical product into a luxury item just for looking good?)

📋 Addressing the shortcomings of uni's first version SSD Enclosure:

  1. Thermal pad troubles - 80% of the time, it couldn't be fully removed and reinstalled (not ideal for sizes 2242/2260).

  2. Not that "easy" on operation - Users found it tricky to install the fastener and not so user-friendly.

🔵 Enter the upgraded uni SSD02 Orange Enclosure:

  1. Installation: A rubber grommet holds the M.2 in place (only to push down the SSD and give the rubber locker a spin).

  2. Latch itself: Soft, wear-resistant silicone, larger contact area, and an added bump for easy rotation/fixing.

  3. Thermal pad: Individually packaged for on-the-spot installation.

  4. Extended PCB for stable size 2280 SSD fixation.

Dimensions stay the same: 12.4 x 3.7 x 1.1cm + 50cm Connector Cable.

Remains aluminum shell, drawer-style opening, eye-catching orange contrast, separate USB C to USB C cable.

Interface: USB C (USB 3.1 Gen2) 10Gbps. | Supports both m.2 NVMe & SATA SSD.
